Editor’s Choice Award Winner – March 2014

We’re a little late with the announcement of the Editor’s Choice award because we wanted to wait until after the whole April Fool’s Day business. We already throw around enough bad jokes and misdirection that we saw no reason to add another level to the confusion. Also, we had a dragon on loan, and it got out of the holding pen. So we spent the whole day running around with nets and then trying to release each other from the nets.

You know, a pretty standard Tuesday at Fiction Vortex.

Let’s get back to the business at hand. The winner of the March 2014 Editor’s Choice Award is …

Bombardier, by K. Edwin Fritz

If you know how we feel about vampires, this might seem like a belated April Fool’s joke, but it’s true. We loved Bombardier because it managed to transcend all the tired vampire tropes and become a compelling and interesting story in its own right. It’s intriguing, thoughtful, and it leaves just enough to the imagination that we feel like we’re part of that world. While we were in love with all the stories in March, Bombardier managed to parlay these strengths into a win.

Congratulations to K. Edwin Fritz, and thanks to all of our authors. Stay tuned for more great fiction, and don’t forget to vote in the Reader’s Choice Poll.

Congratulations Mr. Fritz! I am sure that you will be garnering many more prestigious awards for your amazing stories. Bombardier is truly unique and fabulous. Who knew that a vampire story could be anything other than trite or trashy? Only you could raise the subject from something beaten to death, to a phoenix, resurrected. BRAVO!
