Best of 2013 – The Weather Forecast

There’s nothing new about an apocalyptic end-of-the-world story. And we’ve seen protagonists who can see the future before. But when Jackie Bee combined the two in The Weather Forecast, we found something new and wonderful. The story, I mean, not the end-of-the-world part. We’re not advocating for the apocalypse, just great stories about it.

The most compelling part of The Weather Forecast is the way that a supposed benefit becomes a believable burden. What would be a super-power in any other story is suddenly a major conflict, and it drives the story forward. As we said about it before: “The end should be clear from the beginning, but the ride is still completely worth it.”

Stay tuned as we revisit our favorite stories from 2013, and get ready to cast your vote in the biggest Reader’s Choice poll this side of whatever convenient landmark you are near.
